Leaf Collection
South Park Township provides for leaf collection once in the spring and four times in the late fall. All leaves must be placed at the curb in biodegradable bags after 6:00 p.m. on the evening prior to collection. Leaf collection will be limited to leaves, hedge clippings, and bundled limbs and branches not exceeding three (3) inches in diameter, or four (4) feet in length. Refuse Collection
Refuse collection in South Park Township is subcontracted to a private company, Waste Management. All refuse is collected on Fridays throughout the Township and must be placed at the curb. Residents are advised to place their refuse at the curb, not on the street after 6:00 p.m. on the evening preceding the collection day as refuse trucks cannot adhere to a specific time schedule in any neighborhood.
Large items such as appliances and furniture will also be collected if they are placed at the curb. Lawn and garden trimmings must be placed in plastic bags. Tree limbs/small trees must be bundled in lengths of four feet or less.
Construction materials and automobile parts will not be collected at curbside. Special arrangements must be made with the waste hauler because of landfill restrictions.
Due to provisions in the Federal Clean Air Act, collection or disposal of white goods (refrigerators, freezers, air-conditioners, dehumidifiers, and water coolers) is not permitted unless the freon has been properly removed from the compressors. The Environmental Protection Agency also requires certification that the refrigerant has been recovered from the equipment prior to final disposal. Allegheny County’s Division of Waste Management has provided the Township with a list of reputable companies qualified to perform this service. Recycling Information
Under the Township’s recycling program, the following items can be recycled:
Glass – all colors (no window glass, light bulbs, pyrex or ceramics).
Tin food Cans - (no paints or chemicals).
Plastic – milk, water, juice and soda bottles (no oil or chemical containers).
Aluminum, Bi-Metal Beverage Cans, Food Containers and Newspaper
All containers should be rinsed and lids and rings should be removed. Newspaper should be placed in a brown paper bag or placed under the recycling bin. Do not place the newspaper in a plastic bag.
Recycling bins must be placed at the curb either the night before the pickup day or prior to 6:30 a.m. on collection day. The bins will be collected on the 3rd full week of the month (on Friday).
If you have too many items, place the overflow in a similar container or you can purchase an additional recycling bin at the receptionist’s desk at the Administrative Offices for $6.00. Please do not place items to be recycled in plastic bags because they will not be collected. The Township appreciates the residents’ cooperation in making this program successful. Recycling schedules are available at the Township building.
Sewer Rental
Residential sewer rental charges are bases on actual water consumption at $6.50 per 1,000 gallons. There is also a $15.00 quarterly service charge. Refuse and sewer rental charges appear on one bill and are sent out on a quarterly basis. Bills are sent out during the months of March, June, September and December.
